IN THE GAME
KILLZONE 2
Shooters Beware
The first Killzone missed the mark as the “Halo-Killer”, but it was a smashing success in its presentation of a realistic and gritty futuristic war torn world. The sound was amazing, and the story was classic science fiction. In Killzone 2, out first q of 2009, the world is richer, the sound more intense, and the storyline and presentation flows like a blockbuster action film. It’s a stunning game to experience, and I got to do just that at Sony’s Foster City headquarters.
The game should be a nice compliment to Sony’s other exclusive series, Resistance: Fall of Man, but where Killzone 2 should become a consol favorite is in the ability of the AI Helghast soldiers to use available cover as much as you’ll need to get through the game. The big complaint about Killzone the first time around was the stupidity of the AI opponents. This time around, Guerilla has gotten it right- frighteningly so.
VIDEO GAME THERAPY TIP: Anxiety got the best of you these days? Fear of confrontation crippling you at work? Get your hands on Killzone 2, and as you progress through the game, think of every bad guy that comes your way as the challenge that’s bogging you down. Every time you knock one down, appreciate your ability to move to the next beautiful location as a metaphor for the reward of pushing your boundaries in real life.
