IN THE GAME
LITTLE BIG PLANET
Virtual Da Vinci
LBP is to video games what the paintbrush was to cavemen; A massive advance in expressing your creativity.
It’s actually unfair to relegate LBP to just being a video game. It’s not. It’s a creative tool like Photoshop on your computer. Yes, there’s a game in there, but when you get past that, what you have, for the first time in the history of the medium, is access to a dumbed down version of developers’ tools.
With LBP you can make and share your own games by using both the tools provided and importing artwork (via the PS3’s camera). But you can also make art, short films, and long format animated films.
The best part of the experience is the ability to share your games via the PS network. They’ve even got an art gallery called Planet Illogica, where you can post and sell your creations to decorate your virtual apartment in their social network, HOME.
VIDEO GAME THERAPY TIP: If you have a kid who’s having trouble expressing his or herself creatively, get LBP. Let them play the game, and then challenge them to a race in LBP, where each of you has to build your own car. Then encourage your kid to race on-line and show off their creation.
